It took me six months of conducting market research as I traveled the world to decide that my career was meant to support professionals who are committed to doing big things in this world, and who want to do it differently.
You see… 2018 WAS A PIVOTAL YEAR FOR ME.
Â
I was a VP at an insurance trade association in Washington, DC. I had climbed my career ladder diligently (albeit squiggly, my career trajectory was more of a spiral than a straight line). In many ways I was successful, yet I felt a growing sense of personal unrest.Â
At the time, I thought that feeling would subside. It didn’t. I made the difficult decision to leave my career and city, taking a leap of faith into the unknown. I traveled the world for 6 months and had incredibly rich, transformative experiences.
I’ve always been fascinated by the relationship we have with work and how simple yet complex it is.Â
While on my personal pilgrimage, I found myself conducting market research by asking people I met in my travels about their relationship with work, what they wish they could change about business culture and the intersection of how work influences our life. Â
I found that people from a variety of countries, cultures, industries and titles faced similar challenges and desires.
They want work to feel better. They want to be more empowered and in control of their development and success. They want greater ownership of their time, energy and choices. They want a balanced, well-lived life that coexists with work. They want a career that works for them, vs dragging them around and sucking the life out of them. They want to build a meaningful legacy and do cool, important things through their work.
They want to be the CEO of their career direction.
MY CAREER MISSION
Â
These findings crystallized my next career mission. I wanted to impact the careers and livelihood of professionals, helping them to achieve success, in a way that felt better. This desire coupled with my own journey and expertise through the business world, led me to become an executive coach.Â
I started coaching in 2019, and through years of collecting my own client data from coaching sessions and research, I formulated the Nourished Leader Way.Â
It’s a clear framework for what I’ve tested and proven to work for professionals who want to reclaim their professional desires and direction while growing as a leader.
I now work with mid-career professionals to support their journey to a successful, empowered career from a place of being nourished.Â
Because when we take care of ourselves and our careers, life feels more sustainable, clear, straightforward and joyful. We can’t control everything about work, but when we focus on what we can, and make decisions from a place of honesty, clarity, values and personal priorities, we create a more robust, successful and happy career.
Â
We nourish ourselves by nourishing our careers.
